There are two special days in November that we celebrate here at the castle. The first is National Princess Day which is on the 18th. National princess day for us doesn't just mean the royalty- it includes everyone in the kingdom. Every girl and woman possess attributes of a princess; that is why on National Princess Day we celebrate all ladies!
November is also the month of Thanksgiving. A time where friends and family gather to take time to appreciate the things we have. Princess Odette is always thankful for her family and her friends because they are always there when she needs them. Check out the activity that has become a yearly tradition in the kingdom. We have also added some of our most common recipes we make this time of the year!
Thankful Turkey
Materials:
-
Brown paper bag or Kraft Paper
-
Construction Paper
-
Glue, scissors, and a black marker
To prep this activity for the month, first cut out a turkey body from a brown paper bag and then a giant stack of feather-shaped construction paper.
Each day you can pick a time, sit down to add to your turkey. Everyone can daily add to the turkey on something they are grateful for. As the days go by, the turkey grows.

2 egg yolks

Sprinkle decorations
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease 2-3 baking trays.
2. Rub the butter into the flour until it forms bread crumbs.
3. Stir in the sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolks and beat with a wooden spoon until you have formed a dough.
4. Knead into a ball on a lightly floured surface.
5. Wrap the dough in cling film and chill for 30 mins.
6. Roll the mixture out on a lightly floured work surface and use fun princess cutters to cut out your biscuits.
7. Bake for 10-15 mins or until just pale golden and then allow the biscuits to cool for 10 mins on the baking trays, then transfer on to a cooling rack to cool completely.
8. To decorate, make up the royal icing sugar to make a stiff icing that will hold it’s shape. Divide the icing in half and place in covered bowls.
9. Mix one half with just enough water to make a thick icing you can pour. Cover and set aside. If coloring your icing, add a drop of food coloring to each mix - choose your favorite color!
10. Place the thicker icing in a piping bag with a small plain nozzle and pipe the outline around the biscuits. Allow to dry for 5 minutes.
11. Place the thinner icing in a piping bag and snip the end to pipe it into the outline.
FERDINAND'S TIP - Use a cocktail stick to help it flow up to the edge and fill small areas. Pop any air bubbles with the cocktail stick too.
12. Allow biscuits to dry overnight before storing them in a tin.
PRINCESS TREAT - Alise and Odette also enjoy sugar paste icing on biscuits too - Use cutters to create the correct shape and seal to the biscuit using warmed apricot jam. Decorate the biscuits with fun sprinkles and designs.
